Vikings | ||
“The Way to the North” – that is what “ Norway” means. The Land of fearless Vikings, ancient myths, and epic glory, reflected in cold waters of fjords, will never cease to amaze you. Everyone who has visited this country aspires to return here again enchanted by the beauty of its benevolent nature, where the greatest treasures – snowed mountain peaks, great fjords, and emerald valleys – are securely protected by the trolls. It is a pleasure to have a vacation with a family. Norwegians are truly hard-working, patriotic people who keep and cherish their domestic traditions, the Vikings heritage, Lappish culture, and myths about trolls, so that you yourself could believe in trolls` existence as soon as you see the road sign warning you about their possible appearance. Our vacation promised to be marvellous. Here in the eastern part the capital of Norway – Oslo – is covered in vast forests and woods. It is not a big city though full of entertainment of a modern megapolis. But not a person can ever sense the air of fuss so typical for huge cities. It preserves the atmosphere of calmness and peace in every single sight. Oslo was founded by the Vikings in the eleventh century and gained the status of the capital in fourteenth century. It is one of the most ancient European cities. Within a few centuries the city, named after the King Kristian IV, had been called Kristiansand, but in 1905 it gained its modern name Oslo. In the end of the famous street – that of Carl Johan – the Royal Palace is situated. The oldest city building surrounded by the fortress – Castle Accrues – was built in 1300. The Oslo Cathedral established in the seventeenth century was built in the style of neo romanticism and now it represents the House of Parliament. The café by the Grand Hotel still reminds the times when many famous Norwegian writers, such as Henrik Ibsen, Boernson, and Vinie dropped in here. It is challenging to open the land of the Vikings with a family or alone. |
